Header · Sidebar
A sidebar fixed on the left: logo, links with icons (one with a count badge), submenus that open smoothly in place, and help and social links at its foot. A button folds it smoothly to a column of icons; folded, each icon shows its name in a tooltip, and the browser remembers whether it was folded. On phones it starts folded and opens over the page.

At 390px wide.
With your site in dark mode.
See it live: Header · Sidebar on fancybricks.co — the live preview, and the button that copies it.
Preview on the front end. Scripts don't run inside the builder, so here you only see the layout: the bar shows open and the fold button does nothing here: folding and submenus work on the front end. Save and open the page to see the full result.

The template also pastes a dashed note above the section, with the short version of this page. It only shows inside the builder, never on the published page — see Builder notes.
How to adjust
Every step is the same move: pick the element in the Structure panel, change its Properties.
How to adjust a template shows every one of them in a screenshot of the real builder: the Structure and Properties panels, the classes on an element, a component's style families and the field where a CSS variable goes.
The classes this element carries, in the Bricks panel.

This template's own component, with its Style group open.
- Paste the template in Bricks first — see Copy and paste.
- Select Sidebar navigation (FBK Side header) › Properties: Show or hide group: Hide foot.
- Select Side · Social (FBK Social) › Properties: Networks group: Facebook link, Instagram link, X link, LinkedIn link, YouTube link, TikTok link, Hide Facebook, Hide Instagram, Hide X, Hide LinkedIn, Hide YouTube, Hide TikTok · Style group: Look, Tone, Shape, Size, Show names, Hover effect, Background.
- Spacing, sizes, color and timing with no property of their own: the CSS variables below.
CSS variables
These are the only values in the template meant to be changed by hand. Copy the block, paste it, edit the numbers.
/* the element · class .fbk-hside */
.fbk-hside {
/* Widths: open and folded */
--fbk-t-side-w: 17em;
--fbk-t-side-folded: 4.5em;
/* How long folding and unfolding take */
--fbk-t-side-speed: 0.35s;
--fbk-hside-w: var(--fbk-t-side-w);
--fbk-hside-speed: var(--fbk-t-side-speed);
/* submenus open and close; words, badges and the foot fade while folding */
--fbk-hside-sub-speed: 0.35s;
--fbk-hside-fade: 0.2s;
--fbk-hside-line: color-mix(in srgb, currentColor 12%, transparent);
/* the fold button, and the start of the folded column's middle from the
bar's padding */
--fbk-hside-btn: 2.25em;
--fbk-hside-mid: calc(var(--fbk-t-side-folded) / 2 - var(--space-s));
}
Paste the block in the element's Style → CSS field (the selector is already in it), or set the same variables on the class itself to change every copy at once. The values are your framework's variables, so they follow your site: Choosing a framework.
Requirements
- Code execution. Needs "Execute code" enabled for the role in Bricks → Settings → Custom code, or the JS block shows as plain text instead of running.
What each requirement is, and how to set it up once for the whole site: Requirements.
Finish by hand
- Put it anywhere on the page: it stays fixed on the left and the page starts after it
(17em open, 4.5em folded; change both in
.fbk-hsideif you change--fbk-t-side-wor--fbk-t-side-folded). - Links: Side · Item (a link) or a submenu item (a button + Side · Submenu). Mark the current page with aria-current="page" on its link.
- Count badge: Side · Badge … inside a link (class
fbk-hside__badge); folded, it turns into a dot on the icon. Remove it or copy it to another link. - Folded or open is remembered in the visitor's browser (localStorage
fbk-hside-folded), as in the original; phones always start folded. Folded, the name of each link shows in a tooltip (Side · Tooltip, classfbk-hside__tip) on hover and keyboard focus; Esc hides it. - Logo: Side · Logo (an image linked to the home page, 2em tall). Folded, the bar shows only its first square (as wide as it is tall): put your symbol at the start of the logo file, or use a logo whose first square is the symbol.
- Folding moves nothing out of place: the icons, the logo's symbol and the social links sit in the folded column all the time and the words fade out; the fold button slides with the edge of the bar.
- Speed of folding:
--fbk-t-side-speedon.fbk-hside(no motion with reduced motion). - Without "Execute code" the bar stays open with every submenu open.
- The bar is the FBK Side header component: put your logo in its Logo slot, the items in its Links slot (copy an item to add one) and the help and social links in its Foot slot.
- This is a Bricks header template: in your site set where it shows (Template settings > Conditions), or paste its section into your own header template.
On phones
The template is designed desktop first, the Bricks default, and only changes at the two widths the library uses:
- 767px and below —
.fbk-hside,.fbk-section.
Those changes live in Bricks' own breakpoint fields, so you edit them where you always do: pick the breakpoint in the toolbar and the same fields follow.
Careful with the classes shared by the whole library (fbk-section, fbk-intro, the
component classes): a change there shows up in every template that uses them.
If your site's breakpoints are set up mobile first, copy the mobile-first variant of the template instead — see Copy and paste.
Accessibility
In this template, keyboard focus is visible on every interactive piece; movement is cut back
when the visitor's system asks for less motion; the state screen readers need is already set
(aria-current, aria-expanded, aria-hidden, aria-label).
What is checked on every template, and what depends on your own palette: Accessibility.
Dark mode
This section stays light whatever your site does: it does not carry the
fbk-section--auto-dark class, which is only added to templates checked on a dark
background.
Its background is a modifier on the section, so you can swap it for any of the ones the
template is checked with: fbk-section--light, fbk-section--dark.
How the library follows your site's color scheme: Dark mode and preview.
