Elements · Focus carousel

A split light and brand background with the intro and its button, and a centered carousel of cards set out as a staircase: previous low, active in the middle and larger, next high. Only the active card shows its text.

The template also pastes a dashed note above the section, with the short version of this page. It only shows inside the builder, never on the published page — see Builder notes.

How to adjust

Every step is the same move: pick the element in the Structure panel, change its Properties.

Where are those panels?

How to adjust a template shows every one of them in a screenshot of the real builder: the Structure and Properties panels, the classes on an element, a component's style families and the field where a CSS variable goes.

  1. Paste the template in Bricks first — see Copy and paste.
  2. Select Intro (FBK Intro) › Properties: Eyebrow, Hide eyebrow, Title, Title level, Lead, Hide lead · Style group: Eyebrow style, Highlight, Title size, Accent line · Layout group: Alignment, Layout, Background, Spacing · Motion group: Reveal in slider.
  3. Select Intro · Button, Card · Button ×4 (FBK Button) › Properties: Text, Link, Tone, Shadow on hover · Icon group: Icon, Icon position · Style group: Style, Size, Width, Hover effect.
  4. Select Card · Week 1 · Plan, Card · Week 2 · Build, Card · Week 3 · Launch (+1 more) (FBK Card) › Properties: Title, Title level, Text, Hide text · Style group: Highlight, Title size, Look, Tone, Shape, Photo overlay, Padding, Photo hover, Background · Layout group: HTML tag, Layout.
  5. Select Carousel › Content › Options (loop or fade, autoplay, items per page, gap), Arrows and Pagination; one slide = one child, duplicate it to add more.
  6. Spacing, sizes, color and timing with no property of their own: the CSS variables below.

CSS variables

These are the only values in the template meant to be changed by hand. Copy the block, paste it, edit the numbers.

/* «Intro + carousel» · class .fbk-stairs */
.fbk-stairs {
/* Space above and below (the two colors fill it) */
--fbk-t-pad-y: var(--space-xl);
/* The brand half and its big decorative word */
--fbk-t-half: var(--primary);
--fbk-t-word: "Get access";
--fbk-t-word-color: color-mix(in srgb, var(--white) 92%, transparent);
--fbk-t-reach: 4.5em;
/* Height of the text panel under the active photo (close to the real
content: title + one line + button) */
--fbk-t-panel-h: 11em;
--fbk-t-side-scale: 0.8;
--fbk-t-overlap: var(--space-l);
/* Layout (changes below 767 px) */
--fbk-t-steps: 1;
--fbk-t-columns: minmax(0, 1fr) minmax(0, 1fr);
--fbk-t-half-top: 0px;
--fbk-t-half-start: 50%;
--fbk-t-word-size: calc(var(--h1) * 1.3);
/* room under the carousel for the big word, minus the overlap (the word
rides up into part of it) */
--fbk-t-pad-end: calc(var(--space-m) * 2 + var(--fbk-t-word-size) - var(--fbk-t-overlap));
}

Paste the block in the element's Style → CSS field (the selector is already in it), or set the same variables on the class itself to change every copy at once. The values are your framework's variables, so they follow your site: Choosing a framework.

Finish by hand

  • Replace the photos (decorative: the card title names the week, so alt stays empty).
  • The big word on the brand half is decoration: change it with --fbk-t-word on the row. Room for the staircase: --fbk-t-reach.
  • Add or remove cards by duplicating a slide; keep at least four for a smooth loop with three per view.
  • The room above and below the staircase (on the track) is in the carousel's class .fbk-stairs__carousel. The staircase and the focus are in the Custom CSS of the slide class .fbk-stairs__slide (Style > CSS): %root%.splide__slide is any card (side size, hidden text panel), %root%.splide__slide.is-active the center card with its text, .is-prev the lower one and .is-next the raised one. The split background and the big word are %root%::before and %root%::after of the row class .fbk-stairs.

On phones

The template is designed desktop first, the Bricks default, and only changes at the two widths the library uses:

  • 991px and below — .fbk-intro.
  • 767px and below — .fbk-stairs, .fbk-section.

Those changes live in Bricks' own breakpoint fields, so you edit them where you always do: pick the breakpoint in the toolbar and the same fields follow.

Careful with the classes shared by the whole library (fbk-section, fbk-intro, the component classes): a change there shows up in every template that uses them.

If your site's breakpoints are set up mobile first, copy the mobile-first variant of the template instead — see Copy and paste.

Accessibility

In this template, keyboard focus is visible on every interactive piece; movement is cut back when the visitor's system asks for less motion; the state screen readers need is already set (aria-label).

What is checked on every template, and what depends on your own palette: Accessibility.

Dark mode

With your site in dark mode this section turns dark too — the class fbk-section--auto-dark on the section does it. Remove the class to keep it light.

Its background is a modifier on the section, so you can swap it for any of the ones the template is checked with: fbk-section--soft, fbk-section--brand, fbk-section--light, fbk-section--dark.
