Cards · Deck

Cards arrive stacked like a deck and spread into place when they come into view. Scroll down to see it.

Preview on the front end. Scripts don't run inside the builder, so here you only see the layout: the cards are always spread here (the deck and the deal need the script, on the front end). Save and open the page to see the full result.

The template also pastes a dashed note above the section, with the short version of this page. It only shows inside the builder, never on the published page — see Builder notes.

How to adjust

Every step is the same move: pick the element in the Structure panel, change its Properties.

Where are those panels?

How to adjust a template shows every one of them in a screenshot of the real builder: the Structure and Properties panels, the classes on an element, a component's style families and the field where a CSS variable goes.

  1. Paste the template in Bricks first — see Copy and paste.
  2. Select Intro (FBK Intro) › Properties: Eyebrow, Hide eyebrow, Title, Title level, Lead, Hide lead · Style group: Eyebrow style, Highlight, Title size, Accent line · Layout group: Alignment, Layout, Background, Spacing · Motion group: Reveal in slider.
  3. Select Card grid (FBK Card grid) › Properties: Layout group: Columns · Hover effects group: Hover motion, Photo zoom, Photo color, Border light, Reveal text, Hide effects script.
  4. Select Card · Plan with us, Card · Book in one go, Card · Travel your way (FBK Card) › Properties: Title, Title level, Text, Hide text · Style group: Highlight, Title size, Look, Tone, Shape, Photo overlay, Padding, Photo hover, Background · Layout group: HTML tag, Layout.
  5. Spacing, sizes, color and timing with no property of their own: the CSS variables below.

CSS variables

These are the only values in the template meant to be changed by hand. Copy the block, paste it, edit the numbers.

The Custom CSS field of this template's own element, with one of its variables as a real example.

/* «Deck of cards» · class .fbk-cardsdeck */
.fbk-cardsdeck {
/* The deck: how far each card sits from the next before they spread, and the
time of the deal */
--fbk-t-offset: 2.5em;
--fbk-t-deal: 0.6s;
--fbk-t-stagger: 0.12s;
/* Photo strip height and the photo's turn when it shows on hover */
--fbk-t-strip: 9em;
--fbk-t-turn: -4deg;
/* one hover duration for the whole library (--fbk-hover) */
--fbk-t-time: var(--fbk-hover);
}

Paste the block in the element's Style → CSS field (the selector is already in it), or set the same variables on the class itself to change every copy at once. The values are your framework's variables, so they follow your site: Choosing a framework.

Requirements

  • Code execution. Needs "Execute code" enabled for the role in Bricks → Settings → Custom code, or the JS block shows as plain text instead of running.

What each requirement is, and how to set it up once for the whole site: Requirements.

Finish by hand

  • Add or remove cards freely (duplicate a card inside Card grid): the script measures them and stacks them all on the last card of the first row, also when the grid has two or more rows. No CSS per card. The deal starts when the deck reaches the lower quarter of the screen, once.
  • Distance between the stacked cards, time of the deal and pause between cards: --fbk-t-offset, --fbk-t-deal and --fbk-t-stagger on .fbk-cardsdeck. With more than three cards the deck keeps the size of a three-card deck.
  • The deal is the class .fbk-cardsdeck--deal (Style > CSS) plus the code element Deck · Script: remove both for a plain grid. It only plays on desktop and never for visitors who ask for reduced motion; without the script the cards simply show in place.
  • In the template's own preview (not on your pages) the deck has extra room above and below and a Scroll down line, so the deal can be seen: that is the rule .single-bricks_template … in .fbk-cardsdeck--deal.
  • The hover effect (the hidden photo turns in and the arrow slides to its center) is the class .fbk-cardsdeck--photo (Style > CSS: %root% .fbk-card:hover …); remove it to always show the photo with the arrow at its start. Strip height and the photo's turn: --fbk-t-strip and --fbk-t-turn.

On phones

The template is designed desktop first, the Bricks default, and only changes at the two widths the library uses:

  • 991px and below — .fbk-cardsdeck--deal, .fbk-intro.
  • 767px and below — .fbk-section.

Those changes live in Bricks' own breakpoint fields, so you edit them where you always do: pick the breakpoint in the toolbar and the same fields follow.

Careful with the classes shared by the whole library (fbk-section, fbk-intro, the component classes): a change there shows up in every template that uses them.

If your site's breakpoints are set up mobile first, copy the mobile-first variant of the template instead — see Copy and paste.

Accessibility

In this template, keyboard focus is visible on every interactive piece; movement is cut back when the visitor's system asks for less motion; the state screen readers need is already set (aria-hidden).

What is checked on every template, and what depends on your own palette: Accessibility.

Dark mode

With your site in dark mode this section turns dark too — the class fbk-section--auto-dark on the section does it. Remove the class to keep it light.

Its background is a modifier on the section, so you can swap it for any of the ones the template is checked with: fbk-section--soft, fbk-section--dark, fbk-section--light.
