Requirements
A few templates need something turned on in your site before they work the way they're meant to. Every template that needs one of these says so on its card, next to the Copy button, in its builder note, and on its own documentation page — so you'll see it before you copy, not after.
Requires code execution
Needs "Execute code" enabled for the role in Bricks → Settings → Custom code, or the JS block shows as plain text instead of running.
By default, no role has this permission — not even administrators. Bricks requires it before it will run a code element's JavaScript at all.
Why the code isn't hidden without it: without the permission, the template's script shows up as visible text on the page, including on the front end. That's deliberate — it's there so whoever is editing the site notices something needs fixing, instead of the template quietly looking broken with no clue why.
To enable it:
- Go to Bricks → Settings → Custom code, in your WordPress admin (not inside the builder).
- Under Code execution, turn on Enable code execution.
- Turn on the toggle for your role (or the specific roles that need it) in User roles with code execution capability.
- Click Save Settings. The template's JavaScript now runs normally, front end and builder alike — for the parts that work in the builder; see Builder notes for what only shows on the published page.
Administrator already has it on here — turn on whichever role actually
edits your site.
Every template still works without JavaScript — content stays visible and usable — but interactive behavior (autoplay, filtering, some animations) needs this enabled.
Requires WooCommerce
Needs WooCommerce active, with the products/fields this template queries already set up.
Templates in the Woo category — product grids, cart, checkout, account pages — and a handful of others that pull in product data (certain testimonials and contact templates) need WooCommerce installed and active, with real products, categories or fields already in place. An empty store will still render the template, just without the content it's built to show.
To set it up:
- Install and activate the WooCommerce plugin (Plugins → Add New, if it isn't already on your site).
- Run through its setup wizard — store address, currency, a payment method — none of this is specific to Fancy Bricks.
- Add at least a few real products, with categories, images and the fields the template actually shows (price, rating, stock). A product grid with no products still renders, just empty.
- Paste the template. Its dynamic
data tags (a
product loop,
{woo_product_rating:value}…) pick up your real catalog — there's nothing to connect by hand.
Both at once
Some templates need both: WooCommerce for their content and code execution for their interactivity (product carousels, filterable grids). Their card shows both labels.
